Chinese and Indian nationals no longer need to apply for visas before visiting Malaysia

By Coconuts KL Dec 31, 2019 | 4:44pm KL time

Good news for tourists coming to Malaysia from India and China: Government officials have just announced that visitors will no longer need to apply for visas beforehand, starting January 1, 2020.

However, it’s not all free and easy: Tourists entering Malaysia will only be allowed to stay for up to 15 days, and they must key in their details and whereabouts while in the country into an electronic registration system before they arrive. Once the details are logged in, visitors have a three-month window to visit our fair shores for a fortnight.

Previously, visitors would have to apply for a visa beforehand, and show bank balances that prove they have sufficient funds to travel in Malaysia.

Indian and Chinese nationals will have to wait 45 days between visits, and are required to repeat their electronic registration process before coming back. As always, a return ticket home will be required when entering.

And there you have it! More tourists are always good for the economy, but we’re well aware that our malls just got a lot more crowded. Live by the sword, die by the sword.
